Hamgadgets mk1 manual

Probably overkill for someone who may be a casual CW op. I have owned MFJ memory keyers in the past, but this is infinitely superior. Would highly recommend. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. This is a full featured keyer that I have had my eye on for sometime but just never got around to getting one.

The relay in the amp is too slow for the IC key output and there is no way to change the amp key timing on the that I know of. Result is that the radio no longer sees a high swr for that fraction of a second.

A secondary benefit is the wonderful keyer itself. It is certainly full featured but extremely easy to set up and operate. Dale has a hit a home run with the MK1 keyer. Tim NZ8J. I have had this keyer for several years now. I use it and a couple of other keyers. I like trading them off just for fun. I don't know of any other keyer that offers firmeware upgrades to current already out the door products. This is a feature rich keyer, and thus complicated and not a "two page" manual like my MFJ keyer.

I had to read the manual a couple of times, all the way through, to figure out what I needed to do. But, it is very through, which I found really helpful, and provided me a very non-teche psychiatric social worker the details I needed to know to configure the keyer the way I wanted. The manual is on the internet, and who would not like a hard copy in addition to this.

But, the routine upgrading of the firmware really does require a manual that can likewise be " up graded", and the internet is probably the only cost effective way to do this. I have not tried all the keyers out there, but I have tried more than any sane person probably should. This is a wonderful keyer, give it the time it deserves, and know you will be getting the very best 73, Grant n0gra. I have had my MK-1 for well over a year now.

It has replaced two other well known brand keyers that I used for years. Ever since I put my MK-1 on the air, I have not looked back. Customer service and tech support have been great. Frequent email updates and firmware upgrades have kept my MK-1 performing much better than expected.

I love the features, especially the keyboard interface. The MK-1 is a quality product that performs at an outstanding level with great customer service and tech support. For the money, it is an excellent value too. I am a very happy camper! My previous review was based on extreme frustration in working with this unit.

I believe the absence of a printed manual and the disorganized way in which the instructions are presented make it very difficult to easily bring this unit to operational status.

I am confident many if not most Hams enjoy the quality workmanship; for me the effort is not worth the gain. The instructions should be A-Z and focus on how to program for normal use, not arcane minutiae for a limited number of users. One cannot follow the information on a computer screen due to the way it is organized. For the price a printed manual would be helpful. I've used the MK-1 for well over a year now and love it.

I've used many different memory keyers and this is the best one by far. It's designed to operate from a wide range of voltages and is protected from over voltage or reverse power connections. The side tone sounds great and is adjustable, unlike some other keyers I've owned. Dale has obviously put a lot of time and effort into the design and build. The Ultra PicoKeyer complete kit contains everything you need to build a stand-alone Morse code memory keyer and code practice oscillator with speed control.

You can put it in the nice looking, pre-drilled plastic box included , build it into your next homebrew rig, or even retrofit it into your favorite commercial rig! At just a touch over 2" x 2" you can stuff this little circuit board into some pretty tight spots. The latest PicoKeyer chip and all the parts you need are included, along with a high quality double-sided printed circuit board with plated-through holes and silkscreened component outlines. Code practice oscillator??

Since the Ultra PicoKeyer kit includes a small on-board speaker and a headphone jack , and works with single or dual lever paddles and straight keys, you can use yours as a code practice oscillator to learn and practice Morse code. Use it with a straight key, or learn to use a paddle or "squeeze" keyer if you want!

You can even use "bug mode" to simulate a semi-automatic key and master this mode as well. If the on-board speaker isn't loud enough for a noisy environment you can always plug in a pair of ear buds or headphones. Or, you can even add an audio amp and larger speaker for group code practice sessions. A pair of inexpensice PC amplified speakers works great! The Ultra PicoKeyer is an advanced, super low power iambic keyer with a long list of standard features. Here are the main features of the PicoKeyer Kit:.

The Ultra PicoKeyer kit includes the pre-programmed and ready to use Ultra PicoKeyer chip, a high quality solder masked and silkscreened PCB, and all parts needed to build a complete keyer, AND a custom cabinet drilled and machined to fit the keyer. Connectors and Adapters Loads. Buy together: Keyer Paddle cable 3ft 3. Read on EIGHT message memories hold up to characters each, and can be chained together in any order to make up to a character message. Page 22 5. No problem. Just send the normal Morse code for a mistake, 8 dits. Page 23 2. Now the keyer has stopped sending, but the button is still green. You send the signal report by hand. BK TO U and pauses again.

This setting will take effect in place of the Set speed any time you are in Paddle Command Mode. You wish to set the user interface speed to 20 WPM.

Page 26 A nnnn Sidetone audio frequency, - Annnn in Hz. Page 27 time is in element dit lengths after the last element you send, so timing depends on keying speed. Factory reset all settings, but not message memory. Wipe all stored messages from memory.

Simply press buttons 1 and 2 simultaneously. The optional nn parameter is the number of seconds to wait before repeating the message. If nn is omitted, the delay set in the B parameter in Command mode will be used. Carrier Send a carrier n seconds long. As Morse characters are sent from the paddles, they are stored in a temporary word buffer. When a delay of more than a normal Morse word space is encountered, the word is saved until the next time the paddle is used.

Bear in mind that each of these commands is in effect only until the message terminates, when settings are returned to normal. Page 34 Most commands that can be sent from the paddles in Command Mode can also be sent from the computer.

Commands must be preceded by a slash character, and terminated with a carriage return. The input will be echoed to the computer as it is sent, so you can see the command as you type. Page 35 Some commands are not available via the computer port.

For example, the P command to assign the dot paddle can be used only in Paddle Command Mode. There are also some commands such as editing messages that are available from the computer, but are not available in Paddle Command Mode.
